Dr. Frank Gilliam – “A Committed and Determined Leader”

Message from UNCG Board of Trustees Chair

Earlier today UNC President Tom Ross recommended, and the Board of Governors approved, Franklin D. Gilliam Jr. as the next chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. We are honored to welcome Chancellor-elect Gilliam, his wife, Jacquelean, and his son and daughter, Trey and Ariel, to our UNCG family.

During the university’s comprehensive search process, Frank emerged as a committed and determined leader who holds the special combination of skills, talents and experience required to effectively guide UNCG’s future growth.

Special thanks are due to President Ross and the Board of Governors for their commitment to UNCG. As chair of the UNCG Board of Trustees, I confidently speak on behalf of the board when I say we whole-heartedly welcome Chancellor-elect Gilliam to UNCG and we look forward to working with him in the weeks ahead to introduce him and his family to campus and community leaders.

We appreciate the extraordinary service of each member of the Search Committee, who represented the UNCG family with insight and dedication throughout the process. We’re also grateful for the extraordinary interest that students, faculty, staff and alumni invested in the search, especially during the open forums and via the committee’s website.

We encourage you to join with us in welcoming our newest Spartans, Chancellor-elect Frank Gilliam, Jacquelean, Trey and Ariel, to UNCG. Under his leadership UNCG moves ahead, with confidence, to a new beginning.

With best regards,

Susan Safran, Chair
UNCG Board of Trustees
